During the upcoming weekend, our BE Networks Sailing Team “X-Bie” will participate in the “Damen Breskens Sailing Race”. This Regatta also counts for the “Open Dutch Championship IRC”.
The Race will take place from Friday 27th August up to Sunday 29th of August 2021 and registration is opened for the IRC, ORC, CR and Double-Handed Class segments. Our Sailing Team is racing in the IRC 2 segment.
The Race exists for almost 20 years now and traditionally attracts participants from the Belgian & Dutch Open North Sea circuits as well as some Rolex Fastnet Race participants.
The Breskens Sailing Regatta finds its popularity in the challenging racing conditions within a racing area which is strategically centrally located and therefore easily reachable for Dutch, Belgian & UK participants.
At the same time, the Regatta is also well known for its extensive “Après-sailing social program” with Duvel Moortgat taking care of the apéro on Friday for example.
The Racing Area is situated near the River Scheldt Estuary and the North Sea. Depending on the circumstances, the Race Committee shall choose between either “Windward-leeward” courses of approximately 1.5 hour or alternatively Coastal courses mainly around the existing navigation marks of the River Scheldt and the Southern North Sea. For the Open Dutch Championships IRC, it’s important that the length of the “Medium distance Coastal course” needs to be at least 15 Nautical Miles.
Next year, the European Championship IRC 2022 will be organized together with the Breskens Sailing Weekend. It will be the 7th edition of the European Championship IRC taking place over 4 days in late August 2022. The championship is expected to attract a record fleet of highly competitive IRC rated boats vying for the overall win and class honors. Therefore this regatta serves as a good preparation for next year’s event!
We’re looking forward for pictures to follow and wish our Team good luck to achieve some good results!
